Greetings FME'ers,
This is an announcement that Safe Software has now added AutoCAD DWF reading
and writing support to its flagship product FME. AutoCAD DWF now exists now
exists as a unique format in the format list via the FME GUI. It also has a new
documentation chapter and new settings boxes.
DWF stands for Drawing Web Format and is a limited size format targeted at
displaying AutoCAD drawings on the web.
AutoCAD DWF is now available in the FME 2005 betas (Build 1611+) and will be
released in FME 2005.
Common questions:
Q1. Can we read/write to DWG/DXF and DWF interchangeably.
A1. Yes. Though AutoCAD to my knowledge only 'publishes' or writes DWF
from DWG/DXF, FME can also convert DWF files to DWG/DXF files. Note that
some complex entities such as blocks and text will have simplified
graphical only representations.
Q2. Do the same settings and keywords apply to DWF as in DWG/DXF?
A2. Primarily no. There are a unique set of setting that apply DWF
reading and writing, however some DWG/DXF settings can still have an
impact on a DWF translation. Please refer to the documentation chapter
on AutoCAD DWF for more information.
Q3. Does Ryan actually love AutoCAD?
A3. Sometimes. ;)
Feel free to try the new DWF support, and perhaps the new AutoCAD 2004 support
while your at it, and let us know what you think. If you need more information
or have any questions please contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Ryan Proulx
