Hi James, I'm not sure why SVG isn't available to you. Can you confirm you have at least a Professional license - if so as far as I can tell SVG should be there. The only other thing I can think of is that the writer name changed and you are using an old mapping file - though generally we'd still support the old writer. The only quick solution I can suggest is an upgrade to build 1378 to see if that resolves the problem.
I know there is a 2Gb limit in filesize for some formats in Windows applications (something to do with the largest ID number which can be held in memory) but I'm not sure if this applies in Unix or not - are you still talking about Solaris here? As I understand it this will be less of a problem with the advent of 64bit computing. We experimented with a user setting for speed V memory usage with E00 (i.e. you could tell FME to conserve memory at the cost of a slower performance or vice versa) and this is available if you use FME Objects, but isn't otherwise available for general use - yet.
