This function behaves differently depending on whether your format is file based or directory based. In the case of DWG files, you will have to do a dataset fanout (not sure if this is correct terminology) instead of a feature fanout. Check Safe's movies section; they have demos of both items. Jason

I tried fanout for directory based format translation tab to tab. This worked correctly...expose fme_basename and use fanout. But when I try a file based translation...dwg to dwg this doesn't work...I'm still asked to specify a destination dwg file. Also the layer names are modified. I tried ntf to idgs translation, which is what I am really trying to achieve. Again Microstation is a file based format and I am asked to specify the op microstation file. Again the level names are modified...and I get the error: Couldn't convert feature type of IGDS element from `3129-10' to integer Where can info on attribute fme_basename be found...can't find anything anything in online help or readers_writers documentation...is there anything in these sources that I've missed. Any thoughts... Annette --- In [email protected], "Jason Birch" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > The fanout will do exactly what you want. You may need to expose the correct attribute to fan out on though (fme_basename?). Sorry, I can't check, I'm out of the office. > > You aren't trying to write the files back into the same location you are reading from are you? > > Jason > > ________________________________ > > From: annettefarrell [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Tue 2005-02-15 7:08 AM > To: [email protected] > Subject: SUSPECT:: [fme] Re: dwg files - output as indiviual files to same file name > > > > > > > Thanks for the information SRG. > > > If I have 3 files > > 1.dwg > 2.dwg > 3.dwg > > I process them...e.g I remove a layer > > Then I want to output them as > > 1.dwg > 2.dwg > 3.dwg > > Don't think Tiler will do this...Fanout...don't think this is > applicable either... > > This is probably something simple? > > If I select batch deploy I can only select one output autocad file. > > Any info appreciated. > > Many thanks > > Annette > > --- In [email protected], "Raghavendran\(SRG\)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > wrote: > > Hi Annette, > > It is quite possible to do what you are looking to accomplish. > > I am not quite sure from your email, if u would like to tile the > data and create your own subsets of the 10 dwg files. > > You can look at the tiler in FME Workbench. > > On the output destination feature taking the name of the input dwg > file automatically is quite easy in FME Workbench now. > > You can do what is called as a FANOUT based on an attribute value. > > See:http://safe.com/archives/FMEList/msg14713.html > > HTH > > Cheers > > SRG > > > > > > annettefarrell <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Example: I have 10 dwg files.
