Hi Scott, Chris,
Our developers tell me that we do support direct connect in
FME2005 betas since last December. The whatsnew.txt (ftp://ftp.safe.com/fme/beta/whatsnew.txt) has a little blurb about the parameters needed to make a direct
connection. Look for build 1555 which was when this was implemented. We
believe that it will only be able to connect to ArcSDE v 9.0 or newer, although
we've not tested it on anything older to prove/disprove
this.
Be sure to let us know how it
goes. Our testing on this has been
fairly minimal and we'd appreciate some user feedback ([EMAIL PROTECTED])

Mark

Subject: RE: [fme] Direct connect to SDE in version 9Scott,It was possible starting from ArcSDE 8.2. At ArcGIS 9 however a valid arcsde licence file will need to be read this can be a licensing issue because of a 2 tier architecture, the licence will need to be read from a tablspace on the database. A database server usually has many CPU's and ESRI like to cost SDE on the number of CPU's.Chris Comer

Subject: [fme] Direct connect to SDE in version 9I've found an old message in the FME archives from Don Murray (dated 9-5-2001) stating that FME does not currently support the direct connect option in SDE for version 8.1. Is this possible for version 9 of SDE? Is this even being considered or is an SDE service always going to be required to connect?
If anyone has managed to get this to work, I would really appreciate an example!
Cheers,
Scott Cifelli
