Bryan,
To my knowledge nothing has changed - use the Swizzler (the [+] button
instead of the [...] button) when creating a new workspace and it will
let you add a folder instead of a file.

If you change the source dataset in an existing workspace be sure to
add a merge filter to your single Feature Type to let all your data
pass. Particularly important for CSV data.

PS - if you do have a large number of source Feature Types to connect
to a single transformer use the feature connections dialog to greatly
speed up the process (View->Windows->Feature Connections on the menubar).
