Hello FMEers,

I’m very pleased to announce the immediate availability of the “fmepedia” (http://www.fmepedia.com), an "FME information commons" that Safe is hosting on behalf of FME users.

fmepedia is an FME wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki) that allows anyone to publicly post comments on articles, and also allows approved users to edit and create new articles.  We hope that with time this will become an excellent supplementary resource for FME users.

Our support team has seeded the fmepedia with a bunch of material, including FAQs.  Because fmepedia is based on a wiki interface, it will allow much easier maintenance of these types of things.  We’ve also created pages for every function/factory/transformer/and format in FME, and with time, these can be filled in with relevant tips and hints related to each one.  (Right now they are nearly all empty)

We do know we have much work yet to do on fmepedia (better search engine + better file attachment handling), and we look forward to having your help on the journey.  Visit fmepedia when you have a chance, and get an account. If you’d like to get “editor” status, let [EMAIL PROTECTED] know your account name and you’ll get set up able to author and modify articles.

If you’d like to contribute to the fmepedia and you are also an active member of the FME list, one way to leverage your FME list answers is to write them in the fmepedia, and then post the link back to the FME list (perhaps also with the article, if you want to increase searchability).  We’ll just have to see how this evolves.

I’d like to also extend special thanks to Tom, Jamey, John, Mark, Ryan, and a host of other Safers who have worked long and hard to see this dream realized to its current state.

In any case, we hope you will find the fmepedia useful.  Enjoy!

Dale
