Have you tried setting the format attribute kml_label_color? If it isn't available to expose for some reason try creating it anyway with an AttributeCreator. The readers and writers manual says that it is supported so I don't see why it wouldn't work (though build 2546 is a beta and I can't say for certain what may have changed).
The attribute should be set as an FME color, ie RGB with each being a value from 0 to 1 (eg 1,0,0 = Red) Hope this helps Mark Mark Ireland, Product Support Engineer Safe Software Inc.
