Title: ArcSDE 9.1 - SDE30 question

We just recently upgraded ArcGIS and ArcSDE to version 9.1, SP1 and now I cannot connect to SDE using the SDE30 writer.  I can connect using the GEODATABASE_SDE writer and I can also connect to the SDE database using a SDE command (ie: sdetable) and also can connect using a sql client.  I am using FME 2006 (build 2109) and have tried to connect using Workbench.  The error I get looks like:

INFORM | Making a direct connection using instance 'sde:oracle9i' and userId = 'sde_user'.
ERROR  | Error connecting to instance 'sde:oracle9i' for database 'none' on server '!not_used!' for user 'sde_user'.:The supplied path for the SDE home directory is invalid. Error connecting to instance 'sde:oracle9i' for database 'none' on server '!not_used!' for user 'sde_user'.:Bad connection handle

I am quite certain my connection parameters are correct as every other client I use can connect properly.  The only thing I can think of is that version 9.1 is not supported.  I have checked the online docs, fme groups and fmepedia, but have not found a definitive answer.  Also, the current reader/writer docs only mention up to version 9.0 for the SDE30 writer.

I can use the GEODATABASE_SDE writer if necessary, but I prefer the SDE30 for simplicity, efficiency and the fact that I do not need an ESRI license.

Cheers,
Scott
