Mark, We only have the direct connect as an option right now...no SDE services running. What I don't understand is that the Geodatabase_sde writer connects fine using direct connect, but not the SDE_30 writer. I guess behind the scenes it must be using different processes to connect to the database...although I cannot think off hand of what could be different.
The error mentions SDE_HOME being incorrect, but I am confident that this is set to the correct directory.
