Hi Mark, Thanks for your advice. I've managed to get around the problem by splitting the existing road labels (in the GDB) based on the carriage return in them (a grepper to get all the text before the CR and another grepper to get all the text after the CR). Thus I had two separate lines for each road label. Then I simply offset the coordinate of the second line from the first. Seems to work for me....at the moment. :)
