Hello folks, I just got a note from Jason pointing me at his latest blog:
http://www.jasonbirch.com/nodes/2006/08/05/27/sql-server-2005-safe-at-la st/ which focuses on the now-entering-beta FME/SSIS integration. It's worth a read, particularly if you are someone that uses other ETL tools in your work situation. We are working to integrate FME with several ETL packages so that from within a single environment users can deal with their traditional ETL processes as well as deal with a spatial component thrown in. I've been asked a few times why we would rehost the FME processing environment in other User Interface -- does this mean we are somehow ashamed of Workbench? Not in the least. The issue is that in some corporate environments one ETL tool or another is already firmly established as a standard. By integrating FME with said ETL tool, the organization can leverage the training and expertise and overall investment in the ETL tool and extend its reach into the spatial arena. It's a great value proposition. And for those Workbench lovers out there, you don't need to worry, because typically it is possible/desireable/favorable to still use Workbench to design some of the dataflows and then integrate those into the ETL environment later. Thanks Jason for writing this up. Exciting stuff. Dale PS: I'm back from vacation and excited to be heading to the ESRI UC in San Diego -- if any of you are going to be down there, please stop by our booth (#1716) on the exhibit hall, or take in one of our talks (there's a data Interop course in a few hours that I'm going to miss due to plane delays, Sunday there is a Spatial ETL talk in the morning, and a couple of talks on the data Interop on Wed and Thurs which I'll post below): August 9: 8:30 am - 9:46 am in Room 8 ArcGIS Extensions: Working with the ArcGIS Data Interoperability Extension, Offering I (43/671) - presented by Don Murray and Dale Lutz, Co-founders of Safe Software, and Kim Avery from ESRI August 10: 1:30 pm - 2:45 pm in Room 8 ArcGIS Extensions: Working with the ArcGIS Data Interoperability Extension, Offering II (43/672) - presented by Don Murray and Dale Lutz, Co-founders of Safe Software, and Kim Avery from ESRI Dale ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dale Lutz Safe Software Inc.
