Hi Jason, I thought you should get arcs preserved anyway - if part of a chain they'll simply be part of an aggregate feature.
Make sure that you aren't using any transformers that would require arc stroking, and that the format you are writing to supports arcs. Add a Logger transformer to log features and confirm that they are read as arcs (or not). Which version of Smallworld are you using? Which version of FME?
