Suggest you double check that you are using a 3d seed file (the log will tell you), and also that the attribute you are putting into the 3dforcer is not blank or non-numeric. Indeed, I'd try just setting the z to a constant value first, to be sure all is working.
This definitely should be working and is working for many folks.
