Hi Knut,
Well at the moment FME is single-threaded but there are advantages to
having dual processors...

1) FME can run on a processor that isn't already burdened with OS or
other processes.

2) I know that we are definitely looking at making FME multi-threaded
(the SSIS extension being the first step in this technology), so if
you are buying for the future then it's a good way to go.

Some other considerations...

A 64-bit platform can be a benefit because it can use up to 4GB of
memory for a single process, which is more than you can with standard
32-bit.

Because FME does cache features to disk sometimes, it's also
relatively important to have a disk with fast access and to ensure
FME's temporary files are all written to it.

The other FME product to consider is the FME Spatial ETL Server.
Basically it's a server based FME that accepts FME process requests
from users via a queue system. Like SpatialDirect but without the web
publishing aspects. This might be able to make use of multi-processors
by running two FME translations at once (I have to check the veracity
of that statement!)

Spatial ETL server is a great idea for an organization with many users
wishing to translate data. You concentrate the processing power on a
single machine and the users don't even need to have FME installed to
translate data. Ask [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED] for more
details if you've any questions.

Hope this is of use,

Mark
