Hi FMEers,
It was a busy few days for some of us at Safe leading up to our official announcement of support for GeoRSS <http://www.safe.com/company/news/2007/97/index.htm> (http://www.safe.com/company/news/2007/97/index.htm). We put together a page on GeoRSS <http://www.safe.com/formats/georss/index.php> (http://www.safe.com/formats/georss/index.php) to help describe it a bit more, and I wrote a blog entry <http://spatial-etl.blogspot.com/2007/02/skinny-on-fmes-georss-support.h tml> (http://spatial-etl.blogspot.com/2007/02/skinny-on-fmes-georss-support.h tml) that some of you might find interesting as well. But all of that was before this morning's action around Yahoo Pipes and the buzz that created. It started for me by reading Alfred Sawatzky's blog <http://sworldwatch.blogspot.com/2007/02/ias-soa-and-other-tlas.html> (http://sworldwatch.blogspot.com/2007/02/ias-soa-and-other-tlas.html) about what this might mean for organizations with spatial data they hold internally and want to mash together. If you're a fan of FME, you probably should read this along with the comments I added to it at the end. In those comments, I talk more about how our new FME Server technology will have a key role to play when it comes to getting spatial information out into the mashing up world. These are exciting times. Only a few days ago I hadn't even heard of the concept of Neogeography (this video of a lightning talk at last year's Open Source Geo conference is an excellent introduction - if only we could see the powerpoint slides -- http://www.comem.ch/ogo/OpeningSession_p1_02_01.htm is great 5 minute watch), and today I see its impact coming at us from all directions as I consider the numerous roles FME can play in this emerging world. Fortunately, we are at least somewhat prepared... Its been a long day, so goodnight! Dale ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dale Lutz Safe Software Inc.
