Yes, we did a pile of work in FME 2007 to put to bed once and for all the dreaded "special characters" issue that used to pop up in a variety of places. So FME 2007 is quite nailed down so that & and @ and spaces etc in constants and attribute names are handled with least surprise. Things like string replacers, concatenatores, and greppers for example are now able to cope with most anything you can throw at them. For mapping file folks, the same functionality is available -- we've invented something we call a "Juan" encoding (in honour of our XML expert here at Safe, as in "What Would Juan Do" to solve such a problem). Basically we use notations like <space> to mean a space, etc etc, thus getting around any potential parsing issues. See http://www.fmepedia.com/index.php/WWJD for more details -- we'll be documenting the encoding rules as part of FME 2007 for those so interested. Enjoy!
