I just found my error. At the end of the translation I got an error:
"
Reading...
File Name must be specified for custom point.
Program Terminating
"

this was caused by a lacking underscore :--)
"mapinfo_symbol_filename,j.bmp" should be
"mapinfo_symbol_file_name,j.bmp"
