Well I filed it as an enhancement request (PR12226) but I have no idea
how difficult it will be, and so can give no information on when this
might be done (if at all).
Reading the Factories, Functions and Transformers manual I see the
comment... "Note This function is two-dimensional. Three-dimensional
features will result in two-dimensional output buffered features, and
z coordinates will be lost" - so I guess the output you are getting is
not expected.
