Hi Richard,
It's just there so that you can examine the features that caused the
warning. The SDE writer had a rejected features pipeline, and we felt
that other writers and functions could benefit from the same idea.
This log dataset is a generic way of doing that. 

I guess it just made sense that since we're working with spatial data
we should provide a spatial log file.

The workspace setting "number of features to log to file" can be set
to zero if you want to prevent this file being written.
