>From what I've found about connecting to SDE using Direct Connect with FME; I'm under the impression I'm confided to the version of the SDE service I'm running on my machine. Is this true?
I know in the ESRI's environment the versions of the SDE service and SDE Layer must be the same in order to connect to the Database, I'm hoping this is not the case when connecting with FME. Here the Q & A I'm referring to: http://www.fmepedia.com/index.php/Direct_Connect_for_SDE Q) How do I connect to SDE using Direct Connect? A)To use SDE Direct Connect with FME you need to first install the SDE development kit on the client machine for the version of SDE that is on the server. The SDE SDK is a CD that comes with the SDE installation box set. Without the SDE SDK, when you try Direct Connect, you are likely to see an error message similar to the following: INFORM | Making a direct connection using instance 'sde:oracle9i' and userId = 'support'ERROR | Error connecting to instance 'sde:oracle9i' for database 'asdf' on server '!not_used!' for user 'support'.:SDE_ERROR_CODE(- 106) The supplied path for the SDE home directory is invalid. Error connecting to instance 'sde:oracle9i' for database 'asdf' on server '!not_used!' for user 'support'.:SDE_ERROR_CODE(-92) Bad connection handle Thanks, Robert For insights into what's up at Safe Software and what's on the development horizon, visit Safe's blog at spatial-etl.blogspot.com.
