Thanks Hans,

   That worked out pretty well.  I had a point shapefile 
representing buildings, and used a text adder to change 
it's geometry to a text point and to choose the character 
string, then i used the Text Stroker to select the true 
type font library that contained the symbol representing 
buildings, and ported this into a dgn file.  There weren't 
any problems with MicroStation reading the ttf's and as a 
result i don't have to work with cells anymore.  The only 
other thing I had to do was place an offsetter into the 
process because the font character insertion point was 
defaulted to the lower left corner as opposed to the 
centre.  Once that is inserted the process works fine.
