Hi Dave,

In response to the first part of your question
1) I have just been looking at this myself.  Setting a different 
compression is easy. If you click on the Format Attributes tab of 
the destination format box, you can tick ecw_compression_level.  
Once this attribute is exposed, you can specify the compression X by 
using a constant.

In the meantime, I am having trouble getting ER Viewer to display 
the converted ECW image.  FME can display is and so can my GIS 
software but not ER Viewer.
