Hi everybody. I guess I'm a bit late to reply on this one, but I thing I have some experiences worth charing. Tried to post this message on the Google group yesterday, but nothing happened.
I did some work with Linear Referencing in FME a couple of months ago, and I created a Custom Transformer that might be of interest to you, Grant. The transformer does approximately the same as Crate Route Event in ArcGIS. It connects tabular events data to a geometric network, based on route ids and measures. I've only created it to work with line events, but I think it would be simple to modify it for working with point events as well. The basic idea is that you use Feature Merger to connect the network and the events, based on the route ids, and then use DistanceSnipper to clip the geometry, based on the measures. For point events, I guess you can clip from the start of the segment up to the point position, and then extract just the new start point. I'll upload the transformer now, and hope it can be to some help. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
