Title: Short version of a Long Value List

Hi all,

I have a value list that contains a list of long names ; David Anthony Leicester, John Fred Smith, for instance that’s selected from a pop up.
What I’d like to happen is when a long name is selected that the actual data displayed in the field is the “shortened version”, like an employee code number.
Is there a way to do this without writing lengthy Case or If statements for each name/value list? I suppose it would have to be something on the line of a relationship between Long and Short value lists, but not sure how to go about it.

Any ideas or alternatives?
