Network access: FMP v.6 to .fp7 files

I'm having no luck accessing a .fp7 database (running on v.9) from a  
FMPro v.6 on a network computer.  I take it that v.6 can't access  
an .fp7 file and that I will either have to get the non-profit I'm  
working with to purchase additional licenses or use a web browser.
