Thank you all ... but I guess I was not sufficiently clear.
I appreciate the information re: pulling in the
values from repetitions of a repeating field
into one field which I can then export.
The problem is that the initial data comes from
what you probably will say is a badly designed
database. The source database lists each course
credit (as stated at onset, I have coaches and
their numerous training credentials) for a coach
in a separate´record.
I import Excel files and in that file my
hypothetical Mr. Jones will have umpteen
rows(records ) each listing ONE course credential
So, when imported into FMP, that table will have
X number of MR Jones records as there are
credentials for him.
I have a course table with these records
I have another table with Mr. Jone's demographic information
FMP is great.When I put a portal into Mr.Jones
demographic record and put the "course" field
from the related Course table into the portal,
FMP knows to pull the single course listed in
each of the separate Course records into the
portal ,plopping each course credit into a
separate row of the portal.
Fantastic.
This is not the classic repeating field structure.
The data in the portal is coming from all different records.
When I export my FMP records to Excel.
Excel only picks up the first course listed in the uppermost row in the portal.
I had hoped there was something I could do in
FMP so that all the values in the portal get
exported but it seems that is not feasible
Possibly I might do something in Excel to
concantenaté the separate records for each coach
into one row (record) but THAT would be major
work for the several hundred coaches.
Thanks to all for offering suggestions.
