Released Snort (2.8) has some IPv6 latent features which can be compiled
on, but there hasn't been a wholesale review of things like the
signatures to "v6-ize" them, and Snort doesn't handle all of the myriad
IPv6/IPv4 tunneling options yet.

It would not be generally accurate to say that Snort v2.8 supports IPv6;
it's more like Snort v2.8 has some IPv6 code in it, the first steps in a
 long and ugly slog.
