Radical Islamism & Jihad *Whither Pakistan: Towards Theocracy?<http://www.newageislam.com/NewAgeIslamArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=1242> *
FOR 20 years or more, a few of us in Pakistan have been desperately sending out SOS messages, warning of terrible times to come. Nevertheless, none anticipated how quickly and accurately our dire predictions would come true. It is a small matter that the flames of terrorism set Mumbai on fire and, more recently, destroyed Pakistan’s cricketing future. A much more important and brutal fight lies ahead as Pakistan, a nation of 175 million, struggles for its very survival. The implications for the future of South Asia are enormous. -- *PERVEZ AMIRALI HOODBHOY* 3 Comments More...<http://www.newageislam.com/NewAgeIslamArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=1242> http://www.newageislam.com/NewAgeIslamArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=1242 Radical Islamism & Jihad Real Challenge is defeating Mawdudi’s ideas, not policing Mumbai, Mawdudi and the Indian Mujahideen Sadiq Sheikh’s testimony on 7/11 necessitates a reconsideration of the Indian Mujahideen phenomenon.Days after the July 11, 2006 bombing of Mumbai’s suburban train system, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh went on national television to assert that he was “certain that the terrorist modules responsible for the blasts are instigated from across the border.” India’s police and intelligence forces have an important role in preventing the Indian Mujahideen. from succeeding. But the real challenge involves politics, not policing: defeating Mawdudi’s ideas involves demonstrating that democratic struggles against communalism can succeed. Bar a few honourable exceptions, no politician appears either able or willing to take up this challenge. -- Praveen Swami 2 Comments More... http://www.newageislam.com/NewAgeIslamArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=1228 Dialogue *Thursday, Mar 12 2009* The Back Channel: India and Pakistan's secret Kashmir talks <http://www.newageislam.com/NewAgeIslamArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=1241> More specifically, the Indian government's dossier concludes that the Mumbai attack was coordinated by Lashkar-e-Taiba, or the Army of the Pure-a Pakistan-based, Saudi-influenced Islamist terrorist and guerrilla force that fights mainly in Kashmir. *A decade ago, Lashkar's emir, Hafiz Saeed, announced his intention to destroy India: "We will not rest until the whole [of] India is dissolved into Pakistan."* After the Mumbai attack, Saeed delivered a public sermon in Lahore in which he spoke approvingly of a new "awakening" among Indian Muslims, and described his co-religionists as "second to none in taking revenge." A satellite-telephone conversation between one of the Mumbai terrorists and a supervisor in Pakistan, intercepted independently by the United States, also points to Lashkar's involvement in the raid. After many weeks of prevarication, Pakistani officials conceded that the Mumbai attackers appear to have come from their country. -- *Steve Coll, *The New Yorker 5 Comments http://www.newageislam.com/NewAgeIslamArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=1241 More.<http://www.newageislam.com/NewAgeIslamArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=1241> --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Asalam o Alaikum, You Are Receiving This Message, Because You Are A Member Of FOCUS ON ISLAM, A Google Group [..:: The Best Group For Nice Islamic Mails ::..] \/<<<<>>>>\/<<<<>>>>\/<<<<>>>>\/<<<<>>>>\/<<<<>>>>\/<<<<>>>>\/<>\/ You can Post Your Comments and Suggestions to Me [Moderator of this Group] on this email address: [email protected] To visit your group on the web, go to: http://groups.google.com/group/focusonislam/ To post messages/mails to this group, send email to [email protected] To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [email protected] Please forward our Mails to Your friends, and convence them to join our Group.
