Islam and the West *Monday, Jun 01 2009* Saudi Intellectual: Western
Civilization Has Liberated Mankind
<http://www.newageislam.org/NewAgeIslamArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=1434>

Just look around… and you will notice that everything beautiful in our life
has been produced by Western civilization: even the pen that you are holding
in your hand, the recording instrument in front of you, the light in this
room, and the journal in which you work, and many innumerable amenities,
which are like miracles for the ancient civilizations.… If it were not for
the accomplishments of the West, our lives would have been barren. I only
look objectively and value justly what I see and express it honestly.
Whoever does not admire great beauty is a person who lacks sensitivity,
taste, and observation.

Western civilization has reached the summit of science and technology. It
has achieved knowledge, skills, and new discoveries, as no previous
civilization before it. The accomplishments of Western civilization cover
all areas of life: methods of organization, politics, ethics, economics, and
human rights. It is our obligation to acknowledge its amazing excellence.
Indeed, this is a civilization that deserves admiration. … The horrible
backwardness in which some nations live is the inevitable result of their
refusal to accept this [abundance of Western ideas and visions] while taking
refuge in denial and arrogance. -- *Ibrahim Al-Buleihi, a member of the
Saudi Shura Council*

Islamic Ideology
*SHARI’AH LAWS ARE PLAGIARIZED FROM THE BIBLE! -- Sheikh Sultan M.
As-Salameh, Al-Azhar, Cairo
<http://www.newageislam.org/NewAgeIslamArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=1425>*

The “Muslim Ummah” is practicing much of the Judeo-Christian beliefs largely
from the Old Testament. The ‘religion’ considered and practiced as Islam
today has degenerated from the time of Prophet Muhammad (S). In the
beginning there was a very simple *Deen,* Al-Islam revealed to the Prophet
(S), which was fully encapsulated in just one Book, Al-Qur’an.

For example, the covering of the head for women which has become a point of
much discussion in the West, is actually not found in the Qur’an. Therefore,
it is not a part of the original teachings of the Prophet. It has been taken
from the Christian Bible and incorporated into Islam.

Similarly many of the beliefs that are considered Islamic are actually
derived from the Jewish and Christian scriptures. The early converts from
Judaism and Christianity gradually incorporated their old beliefs into Islam
to such an extent that the ‘Islam’ of today is often a verbatim
manifestation of the Bible. None of these Biblical teachings were known to
the Prophet and they cannot be found in the Qur’an at all. But the
‘scholars’ of Islam are unanimous in accepting these beliefs as part of
Islam today. -- *Sheikh Sultan M. As-Salameh, Al-Azhar, Cairo*

  Islamic Ideology
*How Taliban fits in the dynamic diversity of viewpoints and practices that
is Pakistani Islam
<http://www.newageislam.org/NewAgeIslamArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=1433>*

Even though 97 per cent of Pakistanis are Muslim, the overwhelming majority
are varied and heterogeneous in their practice of Islam. From small sects to
large swathes of Sufism, from Sunnis to Shias, from one interpretation of
religious texts to another, there is a dynamic diversity of viewpoints and
practices. Such a range of strongly-held convictions cannot be steam-rolled
by the one-dimensional, intolerant, unilateral version of the Shariah
projected by the Taliban. An all parties conference convened by the
government in Islamabad in mid-May included several religious parties of
differing persuasions. They strongly rejected the version of Islam
propagated by the Taliban and supported the Army’s action.

An ethnic Pukhtoon sense of fraternity spans dozens of tribal, sub-tribal
identities which constitute the predominant composition of the Taliban. This
homogeneity is one of the major reasons for the fluency with which the force
expanded. At the same time, even within the NWFP, there have been several
instances where purely local identities and perceptions have obstructed the
movement. In the February 2008 election, the vast majority of Pukhtoons in
NWFP including those in Swat, voted for the secular ANP. Such divergencies
amongst Pukhtoons are far greater outside the province. -- *Javed Jabbar*
