EXPLORING BREAKTHROUGH BY UNDERSTANDING BASICS INTRODUCTION Porosity, fracture, permeability and fluid saturation are important parameters in oil exploration and oil field development. It is however, these parameters are not easy to obtain. Seismic which is familiar and already applied extensively in oil exploration and oil development, is expected to contribute (reveal) in solving those of problems. Pore fluids strongly influence the seismic properties of rocks. The densities, bulk modulus, velocities and viscosities of common pore fluids are usually over simplified in geophysics. AVO analysis is a relatively new seismic technique used very successfully to predict hydrocarbon and lithologies for oil exploration reservoir characterization. Using the AVO technique seismic amplitude and their variation as function of offset are analyzed. This information is then used to predict lithology and fluid content. In this discussion, we will discuss this intensively for application this technique to predict fracture and fluid filled fracture. Question concerning to apply seismic as follows: Is the physical concept reasonable? How accurate is our method? How confidence is our estimation? How can we apply theoretical concept into applications? These questions always appear among us (geophysicists and reservoir experts). Understanding the basic concept of seismic wave propagation in rocks and pore structure of reservoir rocks will tremendously help to solve the problems.
