A reminder that there will be a meeting of the HelpNet Steering Committee
this Thursday, August 16, from 12:00 - 1:30 at the Peace and Justice
Center, 170 Park St., Bangor. Anyone who is a Helpnet member
(organizational rep. or individual) is invited (begged, cajoled, pleaded
with, arm-twisted) to attend and be part of the group.
The Steering Committee is an advisory group whose purpose is to direct the
course of HelpNet. While Pine Tree Folk School is HelpNet's financial
sponsor, and (for now, at least) has final control over the purse strings,
the PTFS Board wants to give HelpNet as much autonomy as HelpNet members
are willing to take on. I will bring background information about HelpNet
membership, programs to date, and finances, so that everyone will have a
common base of knowledge to work from.
Here's some questions the Steering Committee may want to take on (I don't
see us covering all of this at this week's meeting):
(1) Program - what services, workshops, etc. should we be
offering, what is the right balance between direct service and education?
(2) Money - how do we bring in enough revenue to keep the project
going?
(3) People - what are ways to involve more people, both as
participants and as providers of technical help?
I hope to see many of you on Thursday.
