Cynthia-

Good question - if everything is working right, spammers should not be able
to harvest addresses from our list archives. The archives that appear in our
site are produced by a free, non-commercial service called Mail-Archive
(<www.mail-archive.com>. They are set up so that they do not display the
E-mail addresses of people posting.

The Folkschool-list itself is currently hosted by Topica, and it is also
possible to read list archives there. (One reason I'm using Mail-Archive
is that Topica only maintains 1 year of messages in its archives.) If you
have a Topica member account, and you are a member of our list, when you
read a message in the archive there you have a "reply to sender" option
which reveals the address of the original poster. However, if you are a
member of the public (not a list member) reading the archives, you do not
have this option, and you will not see the sender's address. Topica has a
good explanation of their anti-spam policies within their site.

All this does not mean that there isn't a hole someplace that I'm not aware
of. Spam is something to be avoided if at all possible, so if anyone sees
a way in which E-mail addresses could be taken off our Web site, please let
me know and I'll do whatever I can to fix the problem.
