There is way too much back in forth about various things. I just want to comment on one of the many.
PostScript is indeed over-specified, and was a mistake carried through to perfection by powering James Gosling's NeWS windowing server. I have links somewhere on my blog that talk about various approaches to rendering farms (i.e., scalable windowing servers), if you are interested in seeing how basically no semantic progress has been made in this area since the dawn of Cedar Graphics.[1] Cheers, Z-Bo [1] Alan did help with a project called Croquet, but it is probably a category error to call Croquet a windowing server architecture.
