I think the basic complaint is that simple tasks are too complicated to
invert from the file format so that GUI-based configuration tools will
have trouble. I suggest that we characterize these activities and develop
some better primitives that more closely match expected usage.
While we may want to permit complicated activities, we should also provide
better framing so that automatic tools can skip the parts they don't
understand without breaking the file. That may be as simple as bracketing
each match.
