Brian, that it ungracious.
However I do agree that this project means nothing until at least the
documentation is released.

Alan, while it is too early to comment on the details (and I probably
don't have the skills) can I welcome this initiative from Sun.
It has been clear for some time that text in X needed new work
and while XFree86 might have enough talented individuals to produce
a great solution, XFree86 is not the only X implementation out there,
and the last thing X needs is divergent text technology - that would
probably push unix completely off the market.
Sun is in a position not only to deliver a good solution, but to
use it in all their applications, setting a good example of what
can be done with a good text technology.

While I understand the commercial need to keep quiet, I trust that
enough noises have been made in the right directions to ensure that
skilled people like Keith Packard haven't been wasting their time.
