Wow, you have just rediscovered the second law of thermodynamics!
Software never ever becomes simpler, order inevitably turns into
disorder as time progresses, and patches with lots of '-' lines are just
like perpetual motion machines: only few dare to believe that they are a
Really Good Idea[TM] ...
