Hi! I'm using xft in abiword, and I'm having a problem with XftInit. Xft takes a loooooong time to perform this operation. First I though that it was only when something changed in the font directories, as usually it takes ~0.7 sec to perform (and that's already pretty bad), but sometimes it takes ~20 sec to perform. I only have the standard redhat fonts + microsoft fonts.
The worst thing is that sometimes when I remove or add a directory to the font directories, it executes in 0.7 sec, and sometimes even if I've not changed anything in the font directories, it blocks taking 20 sec. I'm not seeing that behavior in mozilla-xft, so it may be me doing something bad. I'm just calling XftInit(NULL); An overhead of almost one sec is almost unacceptable. Blocking 20 seconds without giving any feedback to the user is a big no-no. Do you know why it behaves in a so "random" fashion?
