If I understand correctly, there are two unique features in X-TT which are loved by people using Hanzi: artificial bold and oblique. I've found you already get artificial oblique working in Xft 2. But I don't think artificial bold is there. Actually, I don't know how that is going to happen since FreeType group has not decided how to implement that.
