I'm thinking that someone noticed this and sent me a patch, but I
can't remember who it was or the details. (Jacob? Was there something 
to do with Xft not being found on OS/X?)

It certainly works fine for me, but might depend on how you
have Xft installed.... we move the Xft2 headers to 
/usr/include/Xft2/X11/Xft.h to make the search order more
deterministic when you have Xft1 headers on the system
as well.

A setup like that was used in the Red Hat "Limbo" beta we
released a few weeks ago. (With a fair bit of custom tweaking, but
the tweaking shouldn't be needed to get it to basically work.)
