Hmmm. I just tried eliminating parts of my fonts.conf to see whether
that made any difference. And it did. If I removed:
<match target="font">
<test qual="all" name="rgba">
<const>unknown</const>
</test>
<edit name="rgba" mode="assign"><const>rgb</const></edit>
</match>
things work a bit better.
Oddly enough, though, the fonts are still AAed as rgba....
Also, gucharmap will still segv when looking at certain parts of
unicode. It must be looking for a font to match a certain range and
triggers the segv by doing so.
