What is the exact difference that you worry about? I don't think that
anything apart from fixing the straight quotation mark and grave accent
should have changed in the BDF version of Helvetica, if that is what you
use. The quotation mark issue is explained on:

In any case, you can always extract the old BDFs from X11R6.4 on
ftp://ftp.x.org/pub/R6.4/xc/fonts/bdf/.
