Oh, sure, and since documentation on that has improved over time, it has even become fairly easy to do. Still, you sometimes want to use the commandline interface for convenience. Let's say you want to automate testing your stylesheets. So you write some code that aggregates all your FOP-invoking batchfiles. It's just very nice to be able to copy the parameters from your batchfiles.
