Is there a way to change the value of a global xsl variable?
No way as in any functional language.
No, it's not.is it possible to declare a vraiable at some location in the stylesheet and affect it a value at some other location?
Usually that means that you are not understanding fully what a beast xslt is and still trying to develop with it as with java or C.
Actually that's offtopic here, such a pure xslt question should be asked on xsl-list[1], I'm sure you'll get thorough answers there.
