I've got no error messages when I create it. The pdf file is created
properly.
I use Adobe Frame Maker 7.0 to open mif.

You can load the MIF file into a text editor: do you see something?
It may be possible that you use a tool which is incompatible with the
MIF version FOP generates.
Otherwise, there is a host of possibilities. Can you generate a proper
PDF from simple.fo? Are there any error messages, like "disk full"?
