Currently I don't need this feature for my russian characters luckily, but anyway - do you know if it is already planned to be implemented in the future?
Regarding that "some people regard this as a feature" - is it possible to disallow copy & paste for non-russian characters as well? (i.e. prevent the user from cut & paste operations)
p.s. I think this mailinglist here is extremely cooperative compared to others...

Note
"you lose the ability to use characters from other character sets."
The WinANSI character set is basically Windows-Latin-1. You can use
this only with fonts for this range of characters, i.e. most western
languages. Cyrillic is not included.
FOP needs to be extended to put the glyph-index-to-unicode-mapping
into the PDF in order to provide c&p etc. for arbitrary fonts.
