There is not enough space in the area to hold the text. I'm
somewhat confused by your description, I can't decide whether
the block is not wide enough to hold the tab, which is expanded
to a number of spaces, or whether the block is not high enough
to hold another line.
Check width and height settings. In most cases the problem
happens with item-list-labels, whose width is calculated
indirectly and not exactly transparently for a few people.
