i've found what seems to be a pretty fundamental implementation issue on nested fo:block elements, and although i'm not sure what the correct behaviour is at this point, i have a simple example document which gives completely different results on "apache fop" and "xep" from renderx.com.
apache fop seems not to add the margin-left attribute value of parent
fo:block elements to children fo:block elements, whereas xep does.
the example document "nested-blocks.fo" is attached, and pdf output from fop
and xep are attached too, respectively as fop.pdf and xep.pdf
