Seems like I have some old JDK on my system at work. Thought it is 1.3.1 which should be sufficient. Looks like I have to reinstall it or upgrade to a newer one.
1.3.1 is ok. Perhaps a firewall blocks the parser from retrieving the SVG DTD (you might want to set up a catalog to use a local copy).
