Can't answer this one, but I somehow feel compelled to add that I fail to see, in the snippet posted with the original question, why you would *need* a block-container in this case. I think the desired effect can be achieved by leaving out the block-container and subsequently using a nested table and dummy columns / rows to create the 'left' & 'top' of the 'container'.
