The problem is that quite a bit of the styling information isn't available in an easy digestable XML form, it's more like CSS.

Unfortunately, it does not appear that even one of Microsoft's major
competitors has had the necessary combination to technological and business
sense to build a W3C standard document processor.
What about Open Office? Its XML schema isn't specifically
easy to handle with XSLT in the general case, but at least
you don't need a second language parser for most of the
interesting stuff.
